Dear members and friends of I Medici,
It is with great sadness that I Medici and McGill University have
learned of the passing of philanthropist, educator and social activist
Kappy Flanders, on June 27, 2020.
I Medici enjoyed friendship and support of Kappy Flanders since the
early days. The association culminated last season by I Medici's
participation in Projection - a Week of Dialogue 2019, sponsored by McGill University's Council on Palliative Care, one of the achievements of Kappy's productive life.
From McGill Reporter:
Flanders
dedicated decades of her life to raise awareness about and improve
palliative care in Canada. Her tremendous efforts and generous donations
led to the creation of the Eric M. Flanders Chair in Palliative
Medicine at McGill University in 1994 and the foundation of the Council
on Palliative Care, for which she received the Governor General’s
Meritorious Service Medal in 2003. Kappy Flanders sat on McGill’s Board
of Governors from 1998 to 2007.
In 2009, the University
recognized he tremendous contributions by awarding her with an honorary
doctorate of Laws, the institutions highest honours. In 2015, she was
named a member of the Order of Canada.
More details to be published in the coming days.
