Biem, Jason

Jason Biem began taking violin lessons at the age of four in the Saskatoon Suzuki Strings Program with his first teacher Philip Kashap. When he moved to Montreal in 2007, Jason continued lessons with Silviu Patrescu and joined the West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra (WIYSO) under the direction of Stewart Grant. He became the concertmaster of WIYSO in 2009 until 2013 and performed with the orchestra as soloist in 2011. After graduating from Beaconsfield High School as valedictorian in 2011, Jason pursued a Double DEC in Music and Health Science at Marianopolis. In 2014, he obtained the Marianopolis Double DEC Recognition Award and the Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 10 Gold Medal.

Despite Jason’s interests in music and engineering, his curiosity for the rapid innovations of modern medicine and their applications to improve patient care lead him to study medicine at McGill University. During his medical studies, Jason has received the J.W. McConnell scholarship and the Francis McNaughton prize. In 2017, Jason joined the iMedici di McGill Orchestra to stay connected with his musical background and became concertmaster the following year. Currently, he is in his 4th year of medical School and intends to apply for Internal Medicine residency.
