Spasovski, Raymond

Raymond Spasovski

Canadian pianist Raymond Spasovski has been delighting audiences since he was a child in his native Macedonia with his “impeccable playing, virtuosity and musicality.” From that first concert appearance as a 10 year-old, Mr. Spasovski has appeared on concert stages, performing with many of the world’s great orchestras, throughout Europe, New Zealand, and North America.

Following an acclaimed performance with the Sao Carlos (Lisbon) Orchestra in 1983, Mr. Spasovski debuted in London in 1983 at the annual Jacqueline du Pré Concert. That performance earned the admiration of Sir John Pritchard (Music Director, Royal Opera House; chief conductor, BBC Symphony), who subsequently invited Mr. Spasovski to perform with the Orchestre de L’Opera National in Antwerp and Brussels.

In 1984, Mr. Spasovski debuted with the Toronto Symphony (John Lanchbery, conductor), and later joined Lanchbery for performances with the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa) and a 17-date tour of New Zealand (with the New Zealand Symphony). After debuting with the Montreal Symphony (Charles Dutoit, conductor) in 1992, Mr. Spasovski enjoyed return engagements with the Toronto Symphony, the CJRT Symphony, and numerous other orchestras throughout Ontario, and was also invited to perform solo recitals across Europe and North America. Frequently heard on CBC Radio (both French and English-language networks), Mr. Spasovski also performed a rare tour of Cuba in 1995, performing in Havana and Santiago de Cuba.

He made his debut in Scotland in 2012 with a tribute to Glenn Gould on his 80th Anniversary and returned to the United Kingdom in 2013 where he performed at the Edinburgh Festival and at St. James’s Church in Piccadilly, London.  He continues to give private and public recitals.

The recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, Mr. Spasovski received the second grand prize in the prestigious Glory of Mozart International Piano Competition in 1991.
