Tétreault, Stéphane

Stéphane Tétreault, cellist

(2014)
Along with having been named Révélation Radio-Canada 2011-2012 in classical music, Stéphane Tétreault was chosen as Personality of the Week and amongst the Top 25 Artists of 2012 in La Presse newspaper. 2013 was no less successful: beyond having been in nomination for Personality of the Year in La Presse, he also found himself awarded the Prix Opus for Découverte de l'année, the Choquette-Symcox Award and the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award. Recently, Stéphane was selected as the very first recipient of the Fernand-Lindsay Award, an initiative of the Père Lindsay Fondation.

First Prize winner at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Standard Life-OSM 2007 Competition, Stéphane was also invited to participate in the prestigious 2008 Geneva International Cello Competition, the 2009 Rostropovich Cello Competition, and the 2011 Tchaikovsky International Competition.

In 2010, he shared the stage with the violinist and conductor Maxim Vengerov, and more recently in May 2013 in Beethoven's Triple Concerto. In 2012, he was a guest soloist with the Orchestre Métropolitain at Montreal's Maison Symphonique with conductor Julian Kuerti and, later in the year, with world-renowned conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin – performances which garnered him great critical acclaim from the Quebec press.

In 2012, Stéphane released his debut CD, accompanied by the Québec Symphony Orchestra and maestro Fabien Gabel, for the Analekta label. This CD received rave reviews in both The Strad and Gramophone magazines, together with having been chosen as Editor's Choice in the March 2013 issue of Gramophone Magazine. The recording has also received nominations in the Classical Album of the Year categories at the 2013 ADISQ Gala and Prix Opus Gala.

Now 20 years old, Stéphane was a student of the late cellist and conductor Yuli Turovsky for more than 10 years and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance at the University of Montreal. He currently plays the 1707 "Countess of Stainlein, Ex-Paganini" Stradivarius cello, on generous loan by Mme Jacqueline Desmarais.
