Imaging imagery: How musical training and subjective experience alter brain signatures of musical imagery
Abstract Mental imagery of music is an experience that almost everyone experiences in their everyday life, for example when we are singing our favourite song in our mind, or when that annoying tune gets stuck in your head. But what happens in the brain during music imagery? How does neuronal activity during imagery differ from real perception of music? How does musical training affect the ability to imagine music and how is the subjective vividness of the experience reflected in brain activity? In my talk I will present results from neuroscientific research that shed some light on these questions. I will also talk about possible applications and implications for education and neurological rehabilitation, and I am looking forward to discussing these topics with the audience. |
