Lisa Hryciw was born into a musical family in Edmonton, and has been studying the bassoon for 12 years. She started with violin at age 3, and piano a few years later, taught by her father Rob, violinist in the ESO, and by her mother Theresa, piano teacher and accompanist. While completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science at the University of Alberta, she studied bassoon with Diane Persson and Edith Stacey and was a member of the University Symphony Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble, as well as the Edmonton Youth Orchestra. She is currently completing her Master's of Science in Atmospheric Science at McGill with Prof. John Gyakum, while studying with the OSM's Martin Mangrum. Lisa looks forward to studying music at the University of Ottawa with well-known Canadian bassoonist Christopher Millard next fall.
