Professor Annette Herscovics, PhD FRSC, of the Department of Biochemistry and the McGill Cancer Centre died on September 6 with her family at her bedside after a long battle with cancer.

Annette was the member of the original 14 string players that made I Medici di McGill Orchestra in the fall 1989. In spite of many turns in her diagnosis and prognosis she remained the faithful member of the ensemble for twenty years. 

An internationally renowned pioneer in the field of glycobiology, Professor Herscovics showed that sugars (glycans) have a profound effect on the behaviour of cells in genetic diseases and cancers. She remained fully involved in her research and teaching until her death.
